Handloom vs hand-tufted rugs - How to choose the right fit

From Idea to Room - The Journey of a Custom Rug

When selecting a rug for a project or collection, one of the most common questions is the difference between a handloom rug and a hand-tufted rug. At Vezari Living, both are crafted by skilled artisans in Bhadohi, but they serve different needs. Handloom rugs are woven on looms: lightweight, minimal, and versatile, ideal for modern spaces and layering. Hand-tufted rugs use a tufting tool to punch yarn into a canvas: plush, bold, and ideal for statement pieces or hospitality interiors. Choose handloom for subtlety and clean texture; choose tufted for depth, softness, and visual presence. Both are fully customisable in material, colour, and size.

Every rug begins with an idea: a moodboard, a colour swatch, or a sketch. Our process: Consultation → Digital rendering or colour map → Material & colour selection (azo-free dyes; swatches on request) → Weaving (knotting, tufting, or handloom chosen to fit the brief) → Finishing & delivery. Lead times typically range from 4–12 weeks depending on order size. Each custom rug carries both the designer’s vision and the artisan’s hand becoming a story woven into the floor of any space.
